UX writing is increasingly appearing in discussions about UX design. This is an excellent technique for communicating with the client. But what exactly is UX writing? Where and when should it be used? Does it bring any benefit?

What is UX writing?

UX writing is the creation of content — texts and messages that are addressed to users of websites, mobile applications and other digital products. These contents are intended to increase their intuitiveness and influence a positive perception.

It often happens that a given website arouses dislike in the user so strong that he decides to leave it, despite the fact that there is a product of interest on it. The task of a UX writer who works with a UX designer is not to allow such situations and to create an environment in which the client will feel at ease.

The name UX is short for erfahrung, an English term that means user experience. Nowadays, modern solutions are increasingly used, so it is not surprising that customers demand better and better quality of services. Skilled UX designers and UX writers are extremely needed — it is thanks to their work that the use of digital products can be quick and enjoyable.

By getting acquainted with the subject of UX, you will definitely hit the deadline mikrokopija. Although many people consider these concepts to be the same, they cannot be treated as such. Why? Because microcopy is one of several elements of UX writing. It is a term that defines the creation of clear and short messages, comments or instructions. These include, among others, content on contact forms, buttons, error notifications and call to action. Microcopy is an important part of UX writing. Understandable and concrete messages create a clear image of the company and minimize the possibility of misleading users.

What is UX writing?

UX writing is not just about creating content for an almost finished digital solution. It is also participation in the whole process, which is UX design, its production and understanding of what exactly it consists of. From the beginning of the project, both developers, UX designers and UX writers should participate in it.

UX writing is all about creating content that is clear, easy to perceive and clearly understandable for everyone. Difficult, complicated words and sentences are not welcome here. In addition, the messages that a UX writer creates should prompt the recipient to familiarize themselves with the offer or purchase of a product or service. A website or mobile app should be intuitive, both visually and in terms of content. Thanks to this, the client will not give up and will not start looking for alternative solutions. So how should a UX writer write?

Clear, understandable messages

The text should be concise and simple. Every word has meaning here. However, it is important to remember to provide all the necessary information in a short message.

On the active side, not the passive

UX writing is about directing the message directly to the recipient - it sounds natural then. Content should be created on the active page - the passive page should be used in texts of a different type.

Maintaining Content Consistency

Consistency of the message is extremely important. For example, you should not address the recipient in the first and second person in the same sentence. This disrupts the reception of messages, deconcentrates and slows down the decision-making process.

Determining the purpose of the message

Already at the beginning of a given message, it is good to inform the user about the goal that he will achieve by performing a given action, and only then show him how he can achieve it.

Using numbers instead of words

If there is a clearly defined number in a given message, it is worth writing it using numbers, not words. This makes the message much more readable.

Grading the amount of information

The information storm is an excellent reason for users to flee. The abundance of referrals, especially for customers unfamiliar with a given topic, can make them afraid that they will not be able to cope with the challenge posed by the site or application. Details need to be revealed gradually, slowly, so that the reader can calmly familiarize himself with them.

Opt out of the text wall

A UX writer should make sure that the text sounds good and looks clear. The user most often only scans the text, looking for information that interests him. He does not want to go through the whole thing - it is worth making his task easier and dividing the long content into shorter paragraphs.

Where to use UX copywriting?

UX writers are extremely necessary when working on online stores, platforms and mobile applications, especially if they are created in innovative technologies that users may not know and have no experience in using this type of solutions.

The UX principles of copywriting are especially important when creating a microcopy, that is:

  • CTA means “call to action” This is one of the most important tasks for a UX writer. An effective “call to action” on a website or mobile application is intended to encourage the customer to take further steps,
  • information on the results of the actions taken — feedback messages about the success of actions or errors should be understandable and unambiguous for the user,
  • Forms — this text should contain the necessary information for the user, which will facilitate the completion of the form and shorten the duration of this process as much as possible,
  • buttons — the information on the buttons is intended to facilitate navigation on the website or application,
  • instruction — a clear and concise instruction will make it easier for the customer to complete the task quickly and without problems.

Competition in individual industries verifies the attitude of companies towards the customer. These decide to use the services of friendly companies that do not make excessive demands on the recipient. The user does not want to waste valuable time reaching the desired subpages or finding the data. If he gets into trouble, he just gives up. Good UX copywriting is a kind of protection against customer flight, overwhelmed by the difficulty of handling the product. And the company can gain a lot from this.

Advantages of using UX writing

UX writing has an impact on improve the usability of pages, as well as make them simple and understandable to use. It aims to build a positive relationship between the product and the user. This translates to positive perception of the whole product and even the brand, which results in an increase in sales.

A website, a mobile application or a software is an integrated whole that needs to be refined in every way. UX writing is the proverbial dot over the “i” in the whole endeavor.
